Telemarketing is a tough biz. But, if done right, it can still be a very productive way of gathering sales leads.
There's a great article for sales professionals hoping to harvest sales leads via telemarketing. It can be found here, courtesy of "Guerilla Marketing". 
One interesting point it makes towards the end of the article: Stick to a script. "Free spirits", as the author terms them, usually are miserable when it comes to telemarketing.
