Using survey data, statistical samples, and other info to get sales leads and sell what it is you're selling? That's good. Using data, samples and other info that's bad or skewed data to begin with? That's not so good.
As Seth Godin points out in his post about misguided surveys, this point needs to be made: Sales leads that come from tainted or incomplete data might result in a sale or spike in business in the short-term, but will rot away at the foundation of an enterprise in the long term. Seth's blog has some cogent bullet points on the topic, and is worth reading.
Make sure the data you are using to mine sales leads and/or close sales is good data that will stand the test of time.
