As much as I'm for original, "buzz marketing," Seth-Godin-worthy advertising that generates sales leads, I have to admit that there are right times to spend a boat-load of money in an effort to sell stuff.
Rich Ottum over at MarketingBlurb has a great example of one of those times: Selling ring tones to teenagers.
In this case, a multi-million dollar ad campaign seems like the smart bet to reach this $600 million dollar market.
On a side note, I have trouble believing that the U.S. economy is in any kind of trouble when we consumers are spending a whopping $600 million dollars on ring tones. Ring tones!

A great market to get into for exposure to a great demographic, if only it could be used somehow for selling insurance!
