Sam Adams, the beer maker, is encouraging regular Joes like you and me (well, you...since I don't drink) to brew some beer. At home.
Why? Well, you figure it out. On the surface, it doesn't really make sense, does it? I mean, Sam Adams is in the business of selling you beer, not encouraging you to make your own.
Or, are they?
Here's the strategy: Reel in people to your website, encourage them to join in the fun, learn how to make homemade beer (which is the way Sam Adams started his business) and gain some loyal followers in the process.
Oh, and if you win, they'll brew your beer for a year! Pretty cool.
They'll be loyal because there's no threat of them leaving your customer base. Making homemade beer might be fun, but its not easy task. In fact, Sam Adams fanatics will probably be even more fanatics about the product because they've been engaged by them, informed by them, and they get to be part of a fun community of drunken moonshiners...I mean, "home brewers".
It's a smart way for a major company to create some buzz and get some new customers. All through using an exceptionally creative sales lead tactic.
