Doug from MarketingPathway.com had a great point to make on my post about putting up hurdles for your prospects.
Here is Doug's comment:
This definitely holds true for 'organic' web visitors, but many people would do much better with their paid traffic if they first offer great content in exchange for the visitors contact information.
"Squeeze Pages" work when done right, and you end up with a much higer lead conversion rate -- and you get much higher quality leads.
It depends on the kind of traffic.
What's a "squeeze page"? Here's a good definition, courtesy of SmallBusinessBrief.com:
A squeeze page is a webpage that, when the visitor "lands" on it, he is asked to opt-in to some type of list in order to proceed further. On some squeeze pages, your only options are to opt-in or leave. On others, you are given a method to continue exploring the site without opting in. Purist would argue that the second type isn't a real squeeze page.
The rationale behind using a squeeze page is that most Internet marketers realize that the vast majority of visitor will not buy from a site on the first visit. So, these marketers make list building their top priority. If they can just collect the email address, along with permission to follow-up, then they'll get other opportunities to make the sale later.
A squeeze page, generally, has some enticing bullets on it, and does a thorough job of describing what you'll be able to access after you enter your data. The enticing offer on the squeeze page, that has the visitor salivating to get at what's behind that "door," is essential.
Thanks for the good discussion, Doug!

Hey Dan,
Thanks for the link! I'm running a squeeze page right now to build a list of prospects for a new tele-seminar I'm offering. I only use the squeeze page for PPC ads. Prospects from PPC ads must opt-in before they can view a video slide show on lead generation and customer recruitment.
But visitors to my site and my current prospects can view the video directly.
This way, I don't wall my site off from organic visitors AND I can get the biggest bang for the buck out of my PPC campaign. The squeeze page is currently converting at 19%, so with some testing and optimization, I should be able to get it to near 30%.
Here is the video I'm using as a lead generation tool (also to pre-sell my seminar):
