
In the world of high stakes Presidential public relations, you can never have too much publicity or too many "sales leads" in the form of votes.
So credit former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson, who it appears will announce his run for the Republican nomination today and then give more details on...Fox News? No. CNN? No. Claire Celsi's TheDemoMemo? NO!!! 
He'll be making an appearance on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno this coming Wednesday, if early press rumors are true.
It worked for "Arnold the Governator" years ago when he announced his candidacy
for California Governor on Leno's program. And Thompson is hoping it gives him the same voter interest and buzz.
His fellow Republican candidates? They'll be tied up in the 87th televised Presidential debate on Fox News...I'll bet they'd trade that for an appearance on "The Tonight Show"!
Fred Thompson gets credit from this writer for milking his announcement for every bit of buzz that he can get out of it.
There's a lesson in there for sales lead generation campaigns, as well: Never settle for doing things the way that everyone else is doing them.
Thompson delayed his announcement...built buzz...generated talk...took the P.R. road less traveled.
