I'm sitting here in my office, and the phone rings. Trouble is, it's the line I recently dedicated to my DSL connection. So basically, anytime it rings, I know that its a telemarketing call or collection agency thinking that someone else is going to answer besides a businessman.
I answered, and here's what I heard:
"Hello, can I speak to the Hispanic individual that owns this home and who celebrated a birthday most recently?"
WOW! That's one targeted telemarketing call, isn't it?
Here was my response:
"Uh...I'm white, this is a business not a home, and my birthday isn't until January."
It's great to be specific in who you are targeting when you do a telemarketing campaign, but you also need to make it sound right. Their approach sounded so weird that it turned me off from the start.
Make sure your next telemarketing campaign is on target, but also conversational
and personalized...create a conversation instead of just blowing through your contact list as soon as you can.
