Surprise, surprise.
Telemarketers and other direct salespeople aren't on the list of the most respected jobs, according to a recent survey.
Sixty-one percent of Americans think firefighters are the most prestigious professionals, according to a Harris Interactive Poll that measured public perceptions of 23 professions. Scientists (54%) and teachers (54%) tie for the No. 2 spot, followed by doctors (52%), military officers (52%) and nurses (50%).
Among the 11 occupations tracked since the poll began in 1977, only teachers have seen a significant rise in prestige, rising 25 points, from 29 to 54 percent. Priests/ministers/clergy have risen just one point since 1977.
Telemarketers have a bad rap, to be sure. But that doesn't have to be you. You can make your position, and the job you do, respected...professional...and a job that you can be proud of.
But its up to you to earn that respect as a sales lead generator!
